This piece was probably the most challenging thing I’ve made to date. my ideas never cease to challenge me, but they always push me to refine my skills so that I can create what I see in my brain and honor the ideas that come to me.

The reference picture for this was taken my first time going to a range. I did so after being followed through the woods by a creepy man when I was on a walk with my son. I felt terrified and hopeless in that moment, and decided that I needed to know how to defend myself so that I didn’t feel that way again. Through the process of making this piece, there were quite a few other times where I felt this way. From larger things like depressing news about the state of the world and my country descending into darkness, to more personal issues like AI being used by people online to remove my clothing without my consent. These are all things that feel bigger than me, things that I don’t quite know how to defend myself from. Instead of letting the weight of the world bring me down I did what I do best- alchemised these feelings into art.

Remaining soft in this world is not easy, but I have a relentless hope and belief that light always wins in the end.
